This was my favorite part of Yunnan province and so it’s earned it’s very own blog entry. Tiger Leaping Gorge. Where Chinese legend says a Tiger leapt (hence the name) the 30 meter span between the two narrow mountain sides above the angry white foam mouth of the Yangtze river. Dave and I calculated that this could actually be true but unfortunately the speed at which the tiger would fall before reaching the other side would be…fatal.
This place is mind blowing beautiful. My descriptive sentences would be wordy and inadequate so instead I’ll attach some photos to prove it. What I will describe is the near death experience of driving in a car on razor sharp switchbacks with a driver who is single handedly smoking, talking on a cell phone, shifting gears and spitting loose gravel out from his tires. Put me in a sketchy situation on my feet and I’m fine. Put me in a sketchy situation at the hands of some seemingly indifferent maniac and I become a stress case (rightfully so no?). It was like being on a roller coaster with no safety bar and a ride operator on a suicide mission…not to mention the motion sickness nausea that likes to creep up on me in such situations. I thought every switchback would be my last. I almost wanted every switchback to be my last, just to end the panic and vomit that simultaneously sat lodged in my throat throughout the 30 minute drive in and out of the Gorge.
Need less to say I survived and would do it a thousand times over to hike between snowy mountain tops and raging rivers on green hills covered in flowers and crystalline waterfalls. When my computer is functioning better I will attach the videos and photos. Watch the video! Look at the photos! 🙂
