This morning is beautiful. I am sipping green tea in my front garden, in the quiet of early morning, watching the world rub sleep from her eyes. A symphony of birdcalls is her alarm clock and I sit still in the center of it. The sky is blue only because the smoke from Autumns burning has been swallowed up by the cool night air and it’s too early for the fields to be on fire.
This is home, at least for now.
I’ve lived in Lahore for 2 years and three months, during which I’ve chronicled many of the adventures that hold hands with living here. It’s been eye opening, unparalleled, crazy, insanely frustrating, heart-warming AND normal. Despite the sideshow stories, my day-to-day life here is just straight up normal, average even really. Work, coach/after school meetings and activities, cook dinner, garden, yoga, read, T.V shows, socialize with friends…these are our weekly staples. I realize that perhaps I’ve given a skewed view on my life here as amazingly adventurous, when it’s only amazingly adventurous every so often. Actually, what I find most interesting is that we (as human beings) are able to create a kind of normalcy almost anywhere, even when the cultural climate is so foreign…in the truest sense of the word.
So today I want to share with you my normal. Here are some pictures of my home and work….this is what living in Pakistan actually looks like!
